Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is pickleball?
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It’s played on a small court with a paddle and perforated ball. It’s easy to learn, social, low impact and suitable for all ages and abilities - whether you’re playing for fun or fitness.
New to the game? Head to our Guides section to watch a video that explains the rules and how to get started.
2. How do I book a court?
All bookings are made through the Playtomic app.
Simply download the app on your mobile device, search Rotto Rackets Sports, choose your time and book your session. You can book ahead of time or on arrival at the courts, subject to availability.
Bookings can also be made via the Playtomic website on desktop, though most players find the app on their phone the easiest option.

3. Do I need to bring my own paddle?
You’re welcome to bring your own paddle, or you can hire one on site if needed. Paddle hire is available via the courtside vending machine.
Pickleballs are available to purchase from the vending machine located at the courts.
4. How much does it cost to play?
Court hire fees are displayed in the Playtomic app when selecting your time.
Pricing varies depending on the session type and duration, and all bookings are paid through Playtomic.
5. Can beginners play or is it just for experienced players?
Everyone is welcome. Pickleball is designed to be inclusive and easy to learn. Whether you’re new to the game, playing with family or already experienced - our courts are open to all.
6. Are the courts open every day?
Yes. The courts are open daily from 5:30am to 7:00pm, weather permitting.
7. Can I join a social game instead of booking a whole court?
Yes. You can:
- Join a social play session through the Playtomic app
- Connect with other players in our WhatsApp group to organise games
All social play sessions are still booked through Playtomic.
8. What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?
If the courts are unplayable due to weather, your booking may be cancelled.
You’ll be able to rebook through the Playtomic app or request a refund in line with Playtomic’s booking policies.
9. Where are the courts located?
The pickleball courts are located at the Bathurst Point Tennis Courts on Wadjemup / Rottnest Island, near Pinky Beach and the Bathurst Lighthouse.
You can find us on Google Maps by searching Rotto Rackets Sports.
10. Are the courts accessible for people with mobility needs?
The main route from the ferry terminal through the Rottnest Island settlement area towards the Bathurst Point court precinct is via sealed/tarred roads and established pathways, which are generally suitable for visitors with accessibility needs.
The key access limitation is the final approach from the road/pathway to the court entrance, which is currently via an existing sand-based path. This section may present challenges for guests using wheelchairs, mobility scooters, prams, walking aids or mobility vehicles.
Guests with mobility requirements or accessibility questions are encouraged to contact us before booking so we can provide practical guidance on the current access conditions.
For more information, please view or download our Accessibility Guide.
