1. What is pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It is played on a smaller court using a paddle and a perforated plastic ball.

It is easy to learn, social, low impact and suitable for all ages and abilities - whether you are playing for fun, fitness or a little friendly competition.

2. How do I book a court?

All court bookings are made through Playtomic.

Download the Playtomic app, search for Rotto Rackets Sports, choose your preferred time and complete your booking.

Bookings can also be made through the Playtomic website on desktop, although most players find the mobile app the easiest option.

3. Do I need to bring my own paddle?

You are welcome to bring your own paddle, or you can rent paddles from the self-service vending machine located at the courts.

Pickleballs are also available to purchase from the vending machine.

4. Why is there a pending security hold on my card when I rent paddles?

When you rent paddles from the vending machine, a temporary $120 security authorisation is placed on your card for each paddle compartment rented.

Each compartment contains two paddles:

• 1 compartment, containing 2 paddles: $120 temporary hold
• 2 compartments, containing 4 paddles: $240 temporary hold
• 3 compartments, containing 6 paddles: $360 temporary hold

This is not a completed charge. It is a temporary hold used as security while the equipment is in your possession.

Once all rented equipment has been returned correctly, the security hold is automatically released and no payment is taken.

Depending on your bank or card provider, the pending authorisation may remain visible for several business days after it has been released. This processing timeframe is determined by your bank and is outside the control of Rotto Rackets Sports.

5. Will I be charged the $120 security hold?

No.

The $120 is not charged when you rent paddles. It is only a temporary security authorisation.

The amount may only be charged if rented equipment is not returned, is returned incomplete or is damaged, in accordance with our rental terms.

6. What should I do if the pending security hold is still showing?

Once all rented equipment has been returned correctly, the security hold is automatically released from our side.

Your bank or card provider may still take several business days to remove the pending authorisation from your account.

If the authorisation remains visible beyond your bank’s normal processing timeframe, please contact your bank or card provider. We are happy to assist if they require any information from us.

7. How much does it cost to play?

Court hire ranges from $25–$35 AUD per court, per hour, charged per court so the cost can be split between your group.

Paddle hire is available on-site from the self-service vending machine for $5 per hour.

Exact pricing for your selected time slot is confirmed in the Playtomic app at checkout.

8. Can beginners play, or is it only for experienced players?

Absolutely. Pickleball is one of the easiest sports to learn and is designed to be inclusive.

Whether you are trying it for the first time, playing with family or friends or you are an experienced player, everyone is welcome.

9. Are the courts open every day?

Yes. The courts are open daily from 7am to 6pm, 365 days a year.

10. Can I join a social game instead of booking a whole court?

Yes.

You can join one of our scheduled social play sessions through Playtomic or connect with other players through our WhatsApp community to organise a game.

All scheduled social sessions are booked through Playtomic.

11. What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?

If the courts become unplayable due to weather, your booking may be cancelled.

For standard court bookings, you can rebook through Playtomic or request a refund in accordance with Playtomic’s booking policies.

For private functions and group bookings, we will work with you to provide an appropriate credit, depending on the circumstances and any costs already incurred in preparing for your event.

12. Where are the courts located?

Rotto Rackets Sports is located at the Bathurst Point Tennis Courts on Wadjemup / Rottnest Island, Western Australia, near Pinky Beach and Bathurst Lighthouse.

The courts are easily accessible for visitors travelling to Rottnest Island from Perth, Fremantle and Hillary's.

13. Where can I play pickleball near Perth?

For a unique pickleball experience near Perth, Rotto Rackets Sports has four dedicated outdoor pickleball courts on Rottnest Island.

The island is easily accessible by ferry from Fremantle, Hillary's and Perth, making it a great option for a day trip or weekend away.

Our courts are open to beginners, families, social players and experienced pickleball players, with paddle hire and pickleballs available onsite.

14. How far is Rottnest Island from Perth by ferry?

Travel time depends on where you catch the ferry.

The ferry crossing from Fremantle to Rottnest Island takes around 30 minutes, while services are also available from Hillary's and Perth.

Once you arrive on Rottnest Island, you can walk or cycle to our pickleball courts at Bathurst Point, near Pinky Beach and Bathurst Lighthouse.

15. Is this the same as playing pickleball in Perth?

Not quite. Our pickleball courts are located on Rottnest Island rather than in metropolitan Perth.

Rotto Rackets Sports is ideal if you're looking to turn a game of pickleball into a Rottnest Island day trip or weekend away. Combine a game at our Bathurst Point courts with the island's beaches, cycling, cafés and other attractions.

If you're travelling from Perth, you can book your court online through Playtomic before you leave and organise your ferry separately.

16. How do I get to the pickleball courts from Perth?

Catch a ferry to Rottnest Island from Fremantle, Hillary's or Perth. The Fremantle crossing takes around 30 minutes.

Once you arrive on Rottnest Island, head to the Bathurst Point Tennis Courts near Pinky Beach and Bathurst Lighthouse. You can walk or cycle from the main settlement.

We recommend booking your pickleball court online through Playtomic before travelling, particularly during busy periods.
