Sustainability & Positive Impact
Rotto Rackets Sports is committed to delivering a low-impact, sustainable experience on Rottnest Island (Wadjemup), working in harmony with the island’s natural environment and existing infrastructure.
Our Approach
Rotto Rackets Sports has been designed to minimise environmental impact by activating existing facilities at Bathurst Point, avoiding the need for large-scale construction or permanent structural changes.
Our digitally enabled, self-service model reduces operational footprint while providing a seamless and accessible experience for visitors.
Low-Impact Recreation
We encourage active, outdoor recreation that promotes wellbeing and connection to nature.
With the majority of our participants new to pickleball, we are introducing a sustainable, social sport that is inclusive, low impact and accessible to all ages and abilities.
Supporting Local
Rotto Rackets works alongside Rottnest Island businesses, including hospitality venues, ferry operators and accommodation providers, to enhance the visitor experience and support the local economy. For organised experiences, the business partners with on-island hospitality venues, ensuring guests engage with local operators.
The model complements existing services by activating underutilised infrastructure and encouraging visitors to spend more time on the island.
Climate & Emissions
Rotto Rackets Sports operates with a deliberately low emissions profile. Activities are conducted during daylight hours and do not require floodlighting or high-energy infrastructure.
The business utilises low-energy systems, including Wi-Fi connectivity, smart access technology and vending machines, to support a seamless self-service experience while maintaining a minimal operational footprint. This model reduces the need for on-site staffing, limiting transport requirements and associated emissions.
Visitors access the island primarily via shared ferry services, supporting more efficient transport usage. Rotto Rackets is committed to continuously monitoring its operations and identifying opportunities to further reduce energy consumption and support sustainable tourism practices on Rottnest Island.
